A

  • 4 division winners seeded by point percentage (Total accumulated points divided by the total possible points for the team)
  • Highest division winner's point percentage is the number one seed.
  • Next 4 teams seeded by point percentage
  • The highest point percentage non-division winner would be the number five seed.
  • The teams are not reseeded

Tiebreakers

Tiebreakers to be used for teams with identical point percentage shall be as follows:

  1. Highest points percentage in games against teams involved in the tie (Head-to-Head Competition)
  2. Most wins in regular season
  3. Least number of total penalty minutes (average per game) in the regular season
  4. Coin flip

Interesting!  Do you know how they do the playoffs in D2?  Do they take the top 4 from each section?  If so a good team in the North is going to be left out. Just curious!

Nevermind! I found it. It is the top 4 from each Section.  Not sure of the tiebreakers. But we could have 3 teams with 22 points in the North for 2 spots.

Pretty amazing to me that McDowell isn't just dominant in single A. They were a good AAA team for years and have an enrollment over 2000. Now I know the size of the school is really not that closely related to how good the team is, but this is definitely a surprise to me.

They will next year as they have only a couple of seniors to go with a stable of Juniors and Sophomores and a good JV

Of North Hills penalty minutes, 4 players took 141 of those. And that cost them a spot in the playoffs.

actually not, North Hills claimed the final playoff spot based on their head-to-head win against Greensburg-Salem.

But Greensburg Salem beat Erie McDowell. Erie McDowell beat  north hills. north hills beat Greensburg Salem.

They all ended up with 24 points from 20 games and they all won 12 games.

Did the PIHL make a mistake?

I’d have to think it went like this if the above tiebreakers are accurate.

McDowell gets the 7th seed over North Hills and Greensburg Salem based on least number of penalty minutes.

The tiebreakers reset for selection of the 8th seed.

North Hills gets the 8th seed based on their win in the head to head competition with Greensburg.
