Hoser
Below is a summary of https://www.myhockeyrankings.com/ for the USA hockey mid-am district. The top 6 teams in each division are eligible to participate in mid-am district playdowns in March 2019 to determine the district representative to the Tier 1 USA hockey national tournament in April 2019. Presently, the U18 division appears wide-open with any of the teams listed could make a run over the next 3 months for the district banner. Pittsburgh Penguins Elite appear to have a tight grip on each division below midget major. 2018-19 USA Mid-Am District Midget 18U Tier 1 Rankings Team Record Rating 1 Culver Academies Prep 10-6-0 97.67 2 Pittsburgh Esmark Stars 18U AAA 28-9-1 96.83 3 Gilmour Academy Prep 21-9-2 96.83 4 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 18U AAA 19-14-0 96.36 5 Ohio Blue Jackets 18U AAA 10-20-0 95.19 6 Cleveland Barons 18U AAA 11-18-0 94.69 7 Pittsburgh Predators 18U AAA 16-10-3 94.63 2018-19 USA Mid-Am District Midget 16U Tier 1 Rankings 1 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 16U AAA 26-9-0 97.47 2 Pittsburgh Esmark Stars 16U AAA 19-14-2 94.01 3 Ohio Blue Jackets 16U AAA 12-19-1 93.92 4 Culver Academies 16U AAA 7-6-2 93.52 5 Cleveland Barons 16U AAA 7-23-0 92.72 6 Indianapolis Racers 16U AAA 13-14-3 92.26 7 Pittsburgh (PHA) Icemen 16U AAA 14-15-5 92.13 2018-19 USA Mid-Am District Midget 15U Tier 1 Rankings 1 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 15U AAA 29-9-0 95.01 2 Sylvania North Stars 15U AAA 30-12-4 92.12 3 Indy Jr Fuel 15U AAA 17-11-3 91.98 4 Pittsburgh Predators 15U AAA 19-9-4 91.49 5 Pittsburgh Esmark Stars 15U AAA 19-12-2 91.12 6 Ohio Blue Jackets 15U AAA 9-20-1 90.89 7 Pittsburgh (PHA) Icemen 15U AAA 15-15-4 89.28 8 Cleveland Barons 15U AAA 8-22-1 88.67 2018-19 USA Mid-Am District Midget 14U Tier 1 Rankings 1 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 04 AAA 21-16-2 98.27 2 Ohio Blue Jackets 04 AAA 18-7-7 96.13 3 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite (Black) 04 AAA 18-15-3 93.44 4 Indy Jr Fuel 04 AAA 5-16-4 93.01 5 Pittsburgh Vengeance 04 AAA 18-18-4 92.77 6 Cleveland Barons 04 AAA 10-21-3 92.

dazedandconfused
The sudden decline of the Barons organization is hard to believe. They were once a Mid-Am powerhouse. Are they losing a lot of players to PPE and Detroit now? The Blue Jackets aren't exactly world beaters either so it doesn't seem like they are the reason. Ynot02
It will be interesting to see if these standings change much over the rest of the season. At this point it looks like the Vengence and Icemen are picking up where the Pgh Selects left off. The Vengeance has been bashed for calling up 16u players to their 18u team, and now the Icemen are following that lead by rostering PAHL players on their 15u team. Interesting because PAHL rules don’t allow it, but I guess they’ve figured out how to work the system somehow?
twoboys
Are the rankings relevant because the top four make the playoffs for Nationals?
dazedandconfused
Top 6 qualify for Districts. I don't know what the backstory is but apparently the Barons 15U team has been suspended from the T1EHL for the remainder of the season. Not sure if there are any USA Hockey or Mid-Am repercussions but it won't affect the top 6 in that age group.
dazedandconfused
https://www.myhockeyrankings.com/rank.php?d=MM&y=2018&a=4&v=118 That is the link today's update for the 18U age group. Right now, the Preds trail the Barons by a mere 2 one hundredths of a point. The question is this, will MidAm force these two teams to play a play-in game to see who gets the 6th and final spot? It would seem only right since they set that precedent in 2017 when PPE Black Bantam Major team was forced to play a play-in game against Esmark even though they were separated by 1.72 points. discodan
Probably should. Interesting to see that the Preds beat the Barons by 5 goals in their only meeting but the Barons seem to fair better in common opponents

The Tank
There is going to be a play-in game Barons vs Preds
dazedandconfused
Is that the only play-in game? Seems like 16's and 15's should probably have one as well. 14's is clear cut. Maybe it would just make sense to go back to the 8 team format. I understand that they are trying to avoid having teams that aren't competitive but at the 18's in particular, once you add in Culver and Gilmour there should be 8 qualified teams. This year, maybe not. Maybe only 7 but an 8 team format is much cleaner in the way it plays out.
The Tank
When they took 8 there were many blowout games and very few (if any) upsets... 18s are 100ths of a point difference... I personally like taking the 6.

Barons are in. Predators are out. MidAm strikes again. #flawedsystem
Hoser
That REALLY sucks for Preds. IMHO there should be a playoff for any teams within 1 rating point for the final spots. 0.02 rating points to eliminate the Preds players and coaches from a shot at districts and national championship??? Reflects VERY poorly upon the directors of USAH Mid-Am district who set up such a scenario.
The Tank
Not the 1st nor last time I will be wrong. Heard from a couple of different people that it would be a play-in... Unfortunately for the Preds the line has to be drawn somewhere. Strength of schedule seems to be the factor.. Being in the Tier 1 League has its benefits...
