  1. Props to two local boys making the U18 National Team.
  2. This may be a topic for a different thread, but I never really understood why a parent, whose kid did not make a local U16-18 AAA team would send him away to play AAA in another city or state for his junior year or even worse, his senior year in high school? I mean, are the scouts all of a sudden going to notice this player whether they play for Team Maryland, Tri-State, Nashville Jr Preds or any team in Detroit but were not good enough to make a local AAA team? You would think not making a local AAA team would be a sign not to be ignored? I know of several kids that went through this and ended up being non-drafted players while missing their senior year in HS and taking cyber school. Maybe it's me, I just don't get it.
  3. Looks like we found our 09 AAA parent. That was not too difficult. Have you ever thought as to why a “AAA” level team would have to have a supplemental to fill their roster? Do you think the top talent for that age group is waiting around to attend said supplemental?
  4. What does it say when an organization has to hold a supplemental tryout to fill open spots for a AAA Tier 1 team? It’s gonna be a long, long season.
  5. Bro, we got it. No need to post the same comment on six different topics / threads.
  6. Total money grab - many of these invites are "personalized" yet the player's name at the top is almost always in a different font from the text of the invite - kinda like a "insert player name here." There's prospect camps, tryout camps, main camps, exposure camps, combine camps..........did I miss any? And all are at $500 a clip plus hotel at a stay to play venue.
  7. Any truth to the rumor that U18 AAA Vengeance has less than 20 skaters registered for tryouts? And if 09 folded what is going on over there?
  8. Everything you said has zero to do with people accusing the school of covering up abuse that happened at said school. Your trust in Catholics is about as good as my trust in so-called Christians.
  9. To my knowledge Cardinal Wuerl had zero to do with NC other than having his name on the school. And there are those on this thread insinuating abuse occurred at NC and it was ignored? Joe Pa allowed abuse on his own campus. Apples and oranges.
  10. NC has a horrible track record of protecting its students? Could you be more specific?
  11. Well, there were at least two players on the U18 team that attended elsewhere - PR and DL.
  12. Interesting that you did not address my comment that most of the U16 and U18 players are not Pittsburgh locals like you claimed they were. Open your eyes.
  13. Hey U15 Pens dad - we see you. You need to look at the U16 and U18 rosters - the majority of players are not local kids. But give it time. Soon enough when your kid gets into those older age groups he will face “different odds” on his path to the NHL. Let’s circle back after tryouts, yes?
  14. U16 SCIR is 2-0 going into today's game. U18 Armstrong lost a tough one this morning in OT and is eliminated. Allegheny is 1-1 and plays later today. PPE U16 team has been eliminated while U14 and U15 are still in the hunt.
  15. U18 Tier 2, 3A has the strongest teams by far - Cheektowaga, West Dundee, Armstrong, Chesterfield. U18 Allegheny Ind. gets a "host" spot in 2A? If they are hosting natty's, give them a one game bye in Mid-ams. But a guaranteed spot in natty's? Hell nah. Scores from Wednesday for U18 - Armstrong lost 2-1 and Allegheny lost 7-4.
  16. Only two out of the 24 A-level teams make it to the Pens Cup final and they lost to a team that did not lose a game the entire season. Most schools would take that scenario in a heartbeat. On top of that, GS was a five seed.
  17. There are numerous good players at the D2 level putting up ungodly numbers, but that is because in general D2 teams lack the depth to field 3-4 solid lines so the top players are on the ice 75% of time time, including special teams play. Also, some teams may roll four lines to give all players ice time which is a huge mismatch to a team rolling two lines with their best players which allows players to pad their stats. Again, not to disparage any players on that level but IMO they would not put up similar numbers at AA or AAA PIHL level.
  18. There are numerous articles on the TribLive page covering the D2 division and specific teams. https://tribhssn.triblive.com/category/hockey/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=sports-tray&utm_campaign=click-tracking&utm_term=sports-category-hockey
  19. I never said all kids do it, but a lot of them do it. A lot of them.
  20. I cannot speak for @twoboys but if you watch closely after a goal is scored, you will see players get in the refs ear that they were the ones that should be awarded the assist. it happens all of the time and I have seen players nowhere near the puck or scoring play do this in order to pad their stats.
  21. LOL I never told you what to do now did I? I stated what I WOULD DO. And I also said "to each his own." Make your own decision - I don't really care what you do. Preds and Icemen AAA coaches are always looking for that diamond in the rough and parents with a thick wallet, maybe you and your player fit the bill.
  22. Preds parents from the U18 AAA 105th ranked Tier 1 team and Icemen parents from the U18AAA 120th ranked team might respond with "hold my beer." Both teams were out of MidAms consideration by December. No way in hell would I pay for the extra A just to say my kid played AAA on a horrible team with no shot at playing in MidAms and would rather have a realistic chance of going to MidAms and Natty's on a top AA team. Hell, the Preds AA U18 team was ranked higher than their U18 AAA team.
  23. It is typically based on ice time and the amount of tournaments the team plays. Typically a PAHL team plays in four tournaments - two home and two away but could be more. Add the amount of practice ice slots and 20 PAHL games along with any independent games scheduled. Then do the math. If a PAHL team is playing 55+ games plus 1-2 practice slots a week it is not unreasonable for a $3,500-4K spend. Also look to see if the practice slots are shared or full ice.
