I just heard the Vengeance just poached acquired a defenseman from a Renegades team. Word came from a very reliable source - can anyone confirm? It cannot be true because something like this would never happen, especially from such a dignified organization this late into the season. Say it ain't so. Anyone notice the empty seats at PPG and how cheap tickets are now on sites like StubHub and Seat Geek for Pens games? I went to last nights game - two seats, lower bowl for under $90. Is it because Sid and Geno are not on the ice? If so, imagine what its gonna look like when they are gone. True hockey towns have high attendance and interest when their teams are good or bad. Not here, and when the boys are retired and gone youth hockey will take a huge hit here. Do I want to see it happen? No, but reality is coming soon. As far as the Pens helping to develop youth hockey in western PA, I recall PPE was founded on that concept. Not anymore, and as many have said on this thread the Pens are all about the dollar and its brand, nothing more. Just look at any of the U14 and above rosters to see how many imports are holding roster spots.

Ain't no way in hell a team starting the season at AAA drops to AA Tier 2, under any circumstances. Can you imagine the irate parents paying AAA dollars for their superstar kid to then play the lowly dregs in AA, while demanding some sort of kick back or refund?

You know things are not good with Vengeance 07 when Tri-State, Indy Jr. Fuel are ranked higher and they are currently #7 out of eight teams for Mid-Ams. And to gain four points on a current rank of 88.9 to get into the top four qualifiers that is nearly impossible to do. But I am sure the new goalie's parents are extra proud of their now AAA level son for getting "the call."

If this is happening this late into the season then that is f’d up, Vengeance set their rosters back in mid-June.

I mentioned this before but here goes - Excel fees are separate from PPE and NCHS fees and you are all in for around $30K per year. Chump change. It is not in writing to my knowledge, however all U15, U16 and U18 PPE players attend NC and are in Excel as I know players currently on PPE teams that would be attending Central or other high schools if it were not mandatory......cha-ching.

For HS students, Excel begins before school lets out and is mandatory for all PPE players at that level, so your comment on the "older kids parents see the bullshit of the Excel program" does not make sense to me.

There are ways around it - I know for a fact. The school will call it "The Joe Schmoe Memorial Fund Scholarship" or some form of a merit scholarship.

I have no beef with parents that want to shell out that kind of money to fulfill their "kids dream." If they want to buy into the BS fed to them that their kid needs to invest so many hours and dollars into the sure-way program for their kid to be a NHL prospect, go for it - it is their money. But let's not lose sight of this fact - WE ARE TALKING ABOUT 12 YEAR OLDS ON THIS THREAD. Not one of these kids has the slightest clue as to what that next level of hockey will be at the Bantam level, whether they play for PAHL, AA Independent or AAA. And those parents that are buying into this bullshit in thinking their kid has AAA game because some coach told them so will be the same parents that yell and scream at refs once their little Johnny is hip checked into the boards and laid out with a clean and legal hit.

Putting all of this in real numbers, these 09 “superstars” that haven’t even started checking yet and their parents have it rather easy from a financial standpoint. That is, until they have to attend NC High School, enroll in Excel and pay hockey tuition that totals over $30K+ for one year. That is close to a full year of tuition and living on campus at Penn State. Then again, roll the clock forward and by the time these 09’s reach HS age PPE will no longer have any local kids on their teams. “But my kid played AA Independent when he was twelve years old and he dominated.” Parents, start watering that money tree - pronto.
