Link only took me to a page with all the teams at all ages listed but assuming you are talking about the 2013 Esmark Stars - not sure why anyone calls themselves AAA at squirt level period. Even the Pens kids that young are simply a money funnel up to the older age kids who are willing to pay the price of Excel + North Catholic. For a bigger woof, however, look at the U18 Mercer Chiefs.

USC definitely playing well and sustaining it through the season. I'm surprised how good they are but maybe I should not be. I cut the list off so obviously there are several teams below this but I felt like these are the ones that are all competing at the top. On The broadcast tonight they said it is roughly the midpoint of the season so it's going to be a fun finish.

The standings are still pretty tight with 6 teams within 3 points of first place.

Who cares about the game sheet anyway? If they block their teams from reporting to myhockey period it would be a problem.

This is a definite problem in the high school hockey where they include the st Margaret's tourney as an example.

Are they putting a lot of kids into high level D1? Kids who grew up in Pittsburgh and were developed by them? Serious question. I know the odd 1 or 2 studs and even then some of them left for greener grass.

I also think he's making a good point about the point spread. Even worse than that is when you win a game and the kids feel like garbage because they only won by 3 instead of 5 and other crap like that. Sucks the fun and the interest in winning out. Leaves everyone bitter and jaded.

I'm still shocked about Seneca and USC (in different ways). A little surprised about Lebo as well. We will see if it holds through the rest of the season.

Sounds like all the AAA programs more than PAHL to me.

Well no one wants to go to alpha either. But point taken.

On a more serious note our geographic location makes Pittsburgh a great place to play hockey. You can, in my opinion, easily drive from Toronto to Nashville North to South if you wanted. Same Boston to Chicago East to West. Add up all the hockey you can get to in between and it's pretty darn good.

Armstrong won U18 second division. SHAHA 09 won the 2009 second division. WBS (I know not western PA) won 2010 second division. That's the only PA teams that won I believe. I think there were a ton of teams out there though.

Well after the first couple weeks AAA scores are all over the map. Almost looks like Rock Paper Scissors. Seneca hasn't looked nearly as strong as I would have expected. Player availability? Who knows?

Your larger point is correct but the hockey environment was very different back then. I don't think you can take any player stats from that era and compare it to what someone is doing today. Also even local kids who made the NHL didn't have those high school stats. There is a lot of context missing from that in a bubble.
