  1. People complain about teams labeling themselves as AAA and selling that when both the talent on the team and their schedule are no where near AAA. So long as organizations do that, they will be made fun of. The practice hurts youth hockey as it dilutes the local talent pool. 'But PAHL is terrible....but we want to travel....PAHL doesn't offer what we want' blah blah blah. All arguments that have been addressed here ad naseum. The bottom line is that PAHL doesn't offer the vaunted extra A. Which still gets you nothing, because legit AAA programs aren't going to play the faux teams. Just call yourself independent, but no...I want to brag my kid is AAA....spend all my weekends traveling to play other similarly delusional programs....and the programs would be made of for that, but at least not for adding an extra A to their name and pretending to be something that they are not.
  2. How about this Board finally just quit with the COVID and politics, period? We don't need it here, there is going to be hockey to discuss.
  3. Football is already controlling admittance by issuing a limited number of tickets etc. They'll figure it out.
  4. There is a market for it. So long as people will pay for that extra A....but I get you. Most people lose interest by that age
  5. With a warning that if contact tracing shows the event is a source of spread, they may walk it back. So please follow the rink rules so our kids can keep playing and the business owners can stay open.
  6. I felt an immediate sense of repulsion as well. But since when has this forum ibeen about civil discourse? It is a microcosm of how people talk to each other. The discourse on this board is infantile at best most days. Where does civil discourse take place in our country? Can you think of one? We certainly don't see it in our sport, where the angry parent feels entirely free to berate players, refs and coaches loudly from the stands. I'd rather just talk hockey.
  7. Yes, I wonder if schools will still enforce restrictions. Nothing has changed with the virus. So long as the kids can play normally, I can deal. But you can't really see much at a cross country meet, and social distancing around a finish line might be hard.
  8. It's right on Bairel's website what the rules are. It's Bairel's policy. Click on facility rules. They follow USA hockey recommendations. So some rink owners care very much what people are doing on their sheets of ice.
  9. The Supreme Court has already ruled that states do have the constitutional right to do this. Unless there is some nuance specific to pa, not seeing this go anywhere.
  10. No. They don't have a right to any of those things. This is the risk in going against your party.
  11. I think it shows the continued need for parents to call and remind their reps how important it is to not change their vote. After all, Wolf cannot run for another term, but the people who are voting do have that concern. If increased numbers are mostly being traced to college students after schools reopen, it shows that districts are indeed capable of operating safely and there is no reason to think it won't happen with sports.
  12. I don't think most people know about it. The rinks do, not sure if there is anyone who can speak to it.
  13. Actually I just played with a mask on, aside from being annoying to drink on the bench, I was surprised that I didn't notice it all. Depends on what you wear. For younger kids who you are always managing their equipment, masks would be an added extra pain for coaches to deal with. But older kids could handle it. And if that enabled them to play by the powers that be, I would be all for it.
  14. You mean if they can't act like an adult at ten they are all washed up? Squirt parents are nuts. Burn your child out by 12.
  15. They need to move through all the positions at that age. I have a d man who would benefit from moving up to work on his hands, shot and confidence, and he is 13. Work on skating. Defense is a mentality. Kids tend to naturally gravitate there. Coaches tend to not do defensive specific drills, same as the goalie. Talk to your coach about adding some in more frequently. Over the summer, Yuri's defensive clinic is good.
  16. Not that I want to get into the middle of this, but his point was that not everyone is currently voting by party line. You may be right, that may yet come. I'm tired of people voting strictly by party. Our two-system-you-suck-if-you -aren't -for-me attitude of our politicians and Facebook memes are not moving our country forward. Need to work together. That used to happen. Not gonna happen any time soon.
  17. I've asked this question before too, because I didn't think it was permissable but it's not a no no until there is Tier 1 at 14u is how it was explained to me. (There is no true AAA until 14u as others have said, when you compete at Nationals.) I have no ax to grind then or now, just didn't understand it and agree it is confusing. (Why can't you play independent games under your PAHL team name? ?‍♂️) I think the dual thing made it difficult for them sometimes, I know the Vengeance younger teams had trouble getting into some tournaments, directors questioning their ability to hang because they played PAHL. Also, you know if you play those crap PAHL teams it drags down your my hockey rankings....
  18. Mid Am and USA Hockey have said your game has to be compliant with your local regs. That is why people are calling and petitioning their legislatures. Ohio is operating under different rules. It's still not entirely normal there either.
  19. The Allegheny County Health Department is a bit closer. The rink is going to get the most backlash. Maybe it slides if there is no outbreak. But do you really think that is not going to happen? I hope.
  20. Going to catch someone's attention eventually. Didn't someone post on here Alpha got fined? And get any hockey we have shut down. ?
  21. This is what everyone keeps missing. USA Hockey and MidAm are the enforcers, not PIHL and PAHL. And I don't suggest everyone lies about how many kids are on the ice, as @hockeyisgreat seems to suggest everyone should do. Dear lord, this small hockey town can't keep anything a secret, let alone expect that level of cooperation. Bad idea. No one is really able to play a full game at any level in any nearby state, except in Ohio. This insistence that you can in Pa is crazy.
  22. The legislature is made up of the House and the Senate. The bill passed the House committee. Then it goes to the Senate for a vote. The 2/3 is needed to avoid a veto by the Governor. This bill was in committee. There are lots of committees. It takes time to make laws. It's the legislative process. This bill only applies to school districts, to let them decide whether to have sports.
  23. We know, but it is entertaining. And also....people are so wacky, there is a slight thought in my head that someone would. Be more believable in a Squirt parent, because across the board, they get nuttier and nuttier it seems each year.
  24. Nah, gold helmet rejects are forever too good for PAHL or school hockey. They go to Icemen. I have to say, it's much more entertaining to go back to the regularly scheduled agenda of PE bashing than more COVID talk.
  25. Quinlan2020 is obviously doing a lot of hand wringing, but I don't think it's fair to say that kids just not dying is the only concern. I agree, playing seems to have been largely unproblematic so far. Hope it continues as kids return to school. This is the most mingling that we will have seen since March of any population.
