Takeovers of Center Ice & New Ken
nemesis8679 replied to Wes's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
I'm guessing here, but they might want to run their own skills sessions, with employees they can pay 15/hr to, instead of outside coaches making all the money. -
Takeovers of Center Ice & New Ken

An increase could be justified, if say they actually clean and maintain the place. My biggest concern would be them pushing their own teams and league, and these organizations being pushed out or dissolved. I know some skills coaches have already been pushed out. -

COVID Restrictions at Rinks
nemesis8679 replied to Lifelongbender's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Now what do you think? That's one of the most important reasons to be vaccinated, to protect those who can't. But let's just make up excuses and half-baked conspiracies to not get it, right? -
COVID Restrictions at Rinks
nemesis8679 replied to Lifelongbender's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
I would imagine county/municipality/school funded rinks will be strict, and for the rest it will be the wild west. Things are going to get worse as long as people refuse to be vaccinated. At this point, unless a doctor says someone shouldn't get it (which is why everyone else should), I have no sympathy for anyone who gets sick and/or dies. All they're doing is delaying recovery from this and ruining it for everyone else. -

I would say it's a matter of optics. But a case could be made that the equipment at the older kids' sizes is more protective. -

Thanks for saving me 5 bucks. -
A huge part that gets overlooked: It's easy to "want" something. You can learn skills if you are athletic (you don't need the genetics of Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin- just some solid athleticism) and work hard. There are two missing variables: 1) How much funds do you have to pursue this? I wonder how many future Crosby's never even tried hockey because of just this factor? 2) How dedicated to working hard is the kid? How dedicated is the kid to spending nearly every free hour on hockey? Missing vacations, not spending time with non-hockey friends, not running around with a girlfriend or boyfriend on the evenings after school or weekends? Driving to the rink that has the best coaching, which might be an hour and a half away, versus the rink 20 minutes away? Can the player/parents work the schedule out to accommodate all this stuff? Is everyone in the household on board with this, including siblings? This is a much bigger obstacle to "making it" than not having athleticism in the top 1%. Of course the natural genetics help. But I think these two things are as important, if not more.

'Low level' AAA' grow the game?
nemesis8679 replied to Saucey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
A) He did his political job of getting the new arena, growing the fanbase, and making profit. B) He wasn't hired to be a hockey person, or to devolop the neighborhood. Mission Accomplished. Oh, and let's not forget he got lucky with a lot help from the draft lottery in accomplishing the former. -

Well, the plot sure thickened. Good on anybody making it tough on those two slime balls. They should be held yo explain themselves. What a bunch of bullshit. -
So what happens if they get a monopoly going around here? Do they make it hard for teams outside of their own (school, PAHL teams) to get ice time? How about ice time for skills coaches? I can see this being a positive as far as being organized, having clean & maintained facilities, etc. I can also see it being bad news.
