  1. Esmark does the same being they are affiliated with Johnstown Tomahawks. Maybe do both tryouts to get a feel for teams and coaches. PPE has top notch facilities and Esmark has passionate coaches that are dedicated and sincere. It's all about where your player feels it's a good fit
  2. Preds are due for a mass exodus. Should be a warning sign for younger age groups to start looking around
  3. Stick time is the way to go. Get some entry level equipment and hit the ice protected and with a stick to help you out
  4. 66 had nothing to do with it. His son didn't make PPE its first year, played for Predators. Politician on the other hand is a different story. He was paying coaches when his son was 8 years old at RMU for Foxes A major team. Talk about being entitled. Sure, certain names on the backs of jerseys may get some special treatment. Look around the NHL now and you will notice a lot of familiar names from 20 years ago. I think it's more of a pedigree thing.
  5. Ah. The beginning of Pens n friends. I miss the Hornets organization
  6. Who IS coaching this team? Millionaire daddy? Owner? Son? Hmmmmmm, Overwhelming stench since tryouts with trying to trash other programs and trying to get and keep quality players to make up for chosen ones
  7. Found out about it last year. It's my go to for local hockey. Great job!!!
  8. Digital scoresheets are available for every game on PIHL website. Click on the final tab for any game and all info is available. If PIHL is going to list all players stats the way they do and rank players accordingly the process of recording this information should be done correctly. The news media uses these stats also, to list league leaders and give recognition to deserving players.
  9. I was referring to the way stats are listed on score sheets not on how refs report scoring to scorekeepers. One game Monday night only had shots for first period and just goals scored for second and third. I have no involvement with either team but I'm sure the goalies aren't to pleased with their terrible save percentage that gets recorded. get it right!
  10. Stats, stats, stats. PIHL has payed reps at every game running clock and scoresheet. I love stats.. I like following all the players that I have gotten to know over several years. I hate when stats are wrong. I know mistakes happen but when going over game sheets online and seeing first goals of games being listed as empty net goals and other obvious errors I become a little irked. All in all, over the course of a season, I think things even out as far as a player getting credit for their merits. Some errors may benefit them and some may not.
  11. Sooooo, after watching highly competitive 16u AAA for a month where the officiating has been fairly decent PIHL Varsity started last night. Clearly a different rule book in the minds of the refs. Blow up open ice hits well after puck is gone with no calls and then a bunch of ticky tack calls for some pushing after whistles or two players scrummaging for the puck. Hold on, this ride has just started!
  12. Isn't that what the new rule mandates? Puck first then body? The whole point of checking is to separate player from puck, isn't it? Very confusing. Better get the attack triangles back out for practice's on all levels of hockey
  13. I think the seasoned refs at the higher levels can even be worse with their attitudes. A few years ago at a tournament in Cleveland a ref warned both coaches that if he heard one swear word on the ice, that players coach would be ejected. Seriously? It didn't happen but, come on.
  14. That's going to be a tough one. puck contact then body? IDK......
  15. Head shots and hits from behind are cut and dry. They must be called. Some refs seem to have the mentality of "lets just let them play". Always leads to games getting out of hand with cheap shots and then more penalties from retaliatory infractions. They need to follow the rule book.
  16. A penalty always must be served. If the player that committed the infraction is ejected someone has to sit in the box for duration of the penalty. It should deter the player that got the game misconduct from repeat offenses knowing he put himself before his team but we all know how that goes. The coaches have to straighten things out and make sure players are accountable for their actions.
  17. During the regular PIHL season scoring is entered live and sent directly to site by paid PIHL representatives as long as rink is compliant. They may not be up and running until start of season. As for My Hockey Rankings, at the older ages they are used for ranking teams for season end Mid Am National Playoffs and are pretty solid on overall basis with the formula that they use.
  18. GOOD Plenty of options on where to play that fits for you. BAD Plenty of politics and power mongering Finding the right fit is a challenge
  19. Sounds like recreation senior league rules. LOL
  20. Popcorn's reply is spot on. Preds are all about the mighty dollar. That's why millionaire daddy gets whatever he wants and is in charge of 16U AAA team. Money, money, money. Show me the MONEY!!!
  21. 20 players on roster. $16,000 x $6,000 x players on 18u AAA ( yes, he runs that team also) = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  22. Another reason for the refs to think it's about them and not the outcome of the game
  23. Game sheet is posted on PIHL website now. Bunch of fighting majors
  24. I don't understand how certain people are still allowed to be involved with youth hockey.
