The lack of good local D1 hockey in WPA
Saucey replied to Wes's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Do other D1 programs have local kids on the roster? I've always been told that statistically your kids' chance of playing D1 is slim because you are competing with the world of hockey players for a spot. Wouldn't make much sense for RMU to do that only to get slaughtered by all the other D1 teams who recruit from the world's pool and don't limit themselves to local players. -
College hockey in the area getting cancelled...
Saucey replied to Wes's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
I disagree with this a little. My family struggles to go to anything extra during the hockey season because we are .... playing hockey. I would love to catch more of those things but we can only be in one place at a time. Maybe marketing should be broader than the hockey community. The RMU games are so much fun, but really....when do I have time? I would love to go to the Three Rivers Classic but someone is always in a tournament. We are lucky to catch one Wheelers or Phantoms game a season and a few Pens games. -
I make a distinction between sports and gyms. I didn't see sports listed.

PA AAA YOUTH LEAGUE..why not?
Saucey replied to un joueur de hockey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
As others said, the people playing on these teams don't want a local option. They want lots of travel for 'better' competition. -
I don't know. You may be right, but people are happy to have it. Games can be watched later, too. My kid is doing all kinds of weird things to play football (or rather, not really play football) but he has 0 complaints. He is happy to see his friends and get something normalish. So much is really out of everyone's hands right now. Whether people agree or not I hope everyone complies, because if we get outbreaks and it is learned there was widespread non-compliance it will be shut down. And life is so much better with my kids able to be active and social a little.

No one has a definite answer on that. There is not a single thing that you can do right now that doesn't have more risk than usual attached to it. I will probably look into travel insurance. I used it once when my kid sustained an injury in soccer one season to get back league fees. The organization wasn't out my money, which they use to operate, and I got my money back. The bigger risk is going to a tournament I think. A lot of those for profit companies are shady in good times. Add in constantly changing quarantine rules, and you won't know when you might be asked to stay home.

That is pretty awful, offensive and has nothing to do with hockey. Can't people go talk politics and COVID somewhere else? This board sucks more than usual. I can't believe it, but I miss histrionics over Pens Elite cutting little Johnny.

How is this thread related to hockey? Let's move the virus talk elsewhere. Lots of other places to discuss.

North Hills High School news
Saucey replied to Jack Handey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
There is no point in arguing and attacking each other. This is what a highly contagious virus does. With kids hopping rinks, trying out everywhere and doing skills, stick times all over....you got a kid on the ice, you are somehow connected to everyone in the hockey community. We aren't playing six degrees of Kevin Bacon anymore...it's six degrees of who tested positive for Covid. ? Only a matter of time, particularly with the amount of science deniers out there. I want hockey. My house is happier with skates on again. Mood, exercise, socializing. But it is hard to see how this can work, particularly because we have so many people unwilling to do the smallest things to prevent spread. -
Sometimes. Mostly they are hard to find amidst the pats on the back, the ranting and s%&-ing on people who disagree with him.

I think a lot of families use a tryout this way. It isn't always easy to keep their feet moving before the program that they want tries out.

Can we get back to talking about hockey conspiracies? There are lots of other venues to discuss mask and pandemic conspiracies. This thread was for discussion about tryouts.

Michigan Return to the Rink Guidelines
Saucey replied to Lifelongbender's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
That maybe explains why I saw kids in Michigan team gear coming out of Lemiuex last night. Is anyone hearing anything from Mid Am on playing guidelines? -
Get ready for sports to be shut down
Saucey replied to Danner27's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
We were pretty lucky around here. Hope it stays that way. -
Get ready for sports to be shut down

Hockey tournaments will be quite the crap shoot as well. Hockey time still hasn't fully refunded ones they cancelled. -
I didn't personally go after anyone with my comment, jagoff. What is the matter with you? Oh no, I offered a different viewpoint. You are a bully, nothing more, nothing less. You do ok for a while then revert to infantile behavior again.
-
Dude, get a life. I know who you are and I have no interest in your 'advice'. I post an innocuous comment and you are all over me. Pretty sure there are plenty of people in this area mocking you. If you moved, you have no connection to the sport here so pipe down and move on. Better yet, get a job as a Russian bot because that would fit you well. Dear lord, got nothing better to do but stir trouble.

The State College teams have low numbers. Their PW team barely had 12 players two years ago. I am guessing that they are struggling to form teams of like skill. When you have that situation, you see all kinds of formats tinkered with, none of which end up being good for all kids. That is not unusual in a smaller market. But this Board always assumed the worse. With PSU's hockey team having success, I would think that might change over the next few years. Hope to see growth there, because games at Pegula are so much fun for the visiting teams.

Most policies have clauses to deny coverage when engaged in illegal activity. So don't count on your own insurance, either.

PIHL still wants to play the Penguin Cup
Saucey replied to Denis Lemiuex's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Not only that, your private insurer may not cover you. So if a customer falls down on the mom and pop premises and breaks a bone, needs surgery, hope that mom and pop has ten to fifteen grand to cover the medical bills when the carrier refuses to extend coverage because the business wasn't supposed to be open.. -
I mean really. Old people die every day. We have plenty of beds and ventilators for all those old people. Let's get to playing hockey already!
-
That rink is so disgusting, they probably figure the kids already have immunity built up over the years of playing there. All kidding aside, if true, you would have to be nuts to go there. They can't handle being clean in normal circumstances, you're gonna trust them to sanitize during a pandemic? No thanks.

What is up with the 07 birthyear?
Saucey replied to Birddog's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Yes, this. -
Mid Am is supposed to issue something for all levels of hockey and try outs. I hope we get to a point where this will still matter soon. Every day you hear something where the amount of time gets longer. Now we are into summer, with school districts seeming to start to gear up for closing for the rest of the year. Maybe the next time I invite my kid out to skate with me and I warn him it might be the last for a while, he will listen and join me. Keep healthy, everyone,
