  1. From what I've seen, too much emphasis on individual skills, and no emphasis on hockey sense or playing a team game and filling the roles needed. More emphasis on trying to look like Pavel Barber than Pavel Datsyuk. A bigger deal made on what color your kids helmet is than how nice of a pass he made, or how many shots he blocked. How many players can I stick handle and deke around until I either score or turn the puck over, rather than how do the five of US get the puck out of our zone, into their zone, and in the net? And coaching that doesn't correct it at an early age.
  2. Honestly I don't know. Just what I heard had happened there. From more than one person.
  3. If the new arena was built in Cranberry, the redevelopment would've been waaay faster.
  4. I think this wasn't the parents, as much as a coach who couldn't bear being attached to a team ranked lower the AA.
  5. Honestly, having a pro team I don't think helps get people to attend or follow the high school, PAHL, junior, or college teams, at all, to be honest. Most people are going to follow the pro team that's close. By close, I'd say within 45 minutes of travel distance. Attending/watching/following a minimum 82 games takes up a good chunk of time. Semi-pro teams or amateur teams do a lot better when they're the only game in town and get TV time, news coverage, and attendance (college being helped a lot by having an on-campus arena in an area with nothing much else to do, which also doesn't exist around here). Combine that with school support where they don't even mention on the morning announcements upcoming hockey games, and you're lucky if they even announce the score of the hockey game the day after.
  6. Well, these two were experienced enough to know better.
  7. That's nice and I agree, however they still bear some responsibility for what happened.
  8. Not with "fans" around here. How many fans could tell you: -the names of every player on the Penguins team, and what line they're on? -name every team in our division? -tell you TWO players on each team in the league? Or even on half of the teams? -how many games they watch in a season (not even attend, but on TV)? Take a poll next time you're at a game. See how many people are really hockey fans, and not there for the free corporate tickets or because we've had the best hockey players in the world here virtually since 1984 and that tends to draw a crowd. I think you'd be disappointed. I'm not knocking anybody, just being realistic.
  9. Mars HS hockey team guests at Pens game tonight.
  10. It would be interesting to see the costs of hockey vs. all the other sports the schools pay for. Including insurance, equipment, coaches, maintenance - everything.
  11. They're totally culpable, they're there to be in charge. Warning, penalty, eject. This has been already gone over. They can stop the game right there. I've seen it happen over much less. C'mon.
  12. Did you read the part where I said, "I'm NOT laying blame..." I was just asking how they were responding here.
  13. And I'm not laying blame, they obviously weren't chanting these things, but where was the Mars coaching staff during this? I would've demanded the refs do something, and my team wouldn't have played until this was addressed, period. Yelling parents and students acting up during the course of a game is one thing. But this is something entirely different.
  14. Have the local news stations been contacted? If not, how does someone do that? It could be the only way to get some accountability here.
  15. Should have at minimum been warned. Then a bench penalty, then ejected. The whole student section, if need be. That would be the minimum, for the refs to at least protect themselves. This should be turned in to PIHL and USA Hockey, and the other team should have to forfeit games. And no students the rest of the season. I'd really crack down hard on this. And I guarantee that if that were my daughter, or hell, if I were there, it would have been escalated right then and there. This is bullshit, that girl is a child. I hope at least her teammates stood up for her and consoled her. Boy, does stuff like this make my blood boil. Armstrong County trash.
  16. But Little Gretzky Jr. WANTS that competition, he CRAVES it. LIVES for it!! There is just nowhere else that he can find any other competitive players to play against! There's just not a team within the entire Pittsburgh area that can keep up with him! It's scary to think how good he'll be once he hits 11 or 12! He'll be lacing them up for the London Knights in no time.
  17. The last guy that I heard that from about two months ago, has been dead for a month. I guess he lived his 40-odd years on his terms, though. Too bad about his wife and 4 kids, though I guess.
  18. They block practices. If you play a game during a practice slot, you can ask and they'll give you the code. I assume it's a privacy thing.
  19. Once the Crosby/Malkin train pulls out of the station, and Pittsburgh ends it reign of virtually having the greatest player/players in the world on their team since 1984, we'll see how popular the game of hockey is in this town.
  20. 1) warning 2) bench minor 3) ejection That should stop it.
