I believe PAHL sends MHR new team numbers and then MHR just slots teams in based on what divisions the organizations played in the previous season. I don’t think think those are the initial PAHL groupings.

Anyone have the initial PAHL placements?

Lots of interesting initial placements from what I've seen. Can't wait to see what everyone says lol

Not necessarily - if you look at the U16 AA division there are teams there on MHR that did not exist or were not PAHL AA last year.  Viper Stars were slotted as A Major Black last year and decided to go independent - on the MHR U16 PAHL AA they are there.  Rebellion is fielding two U16 AA teams ( or at least trying to ) which includes a BY U15 team and also appear there.

Pittsburgh Huskies, though they are all 07 BY kids, were put into the potential 16UAA division.  Will be interesting to see how they do in their placement games.

I saw them off a friend's phone. I don't have them.

No problem. They'll be floating around in the next day or two. Someone in this forum will post it.

Weren't NP, Renegades and Badgers 15U teams last year that played 16UAA?  All 3 made the 4 team playoffs if I remember correctly.  It will be interesting to see if the 07's can hang with the 16UAA teams.  Also 16U lost 2 Badgers teams that are going independent.

Unfortunately there are so few kids left playing pahl that the 07 kids may get to play there regardless if they are legit AA. Everyone has independent teams. 07s, what there were, keep disappearing to the point that they are now gone. There were some really bad 07 teams last season. Such is the state of hockey around here. But.... it's great, everyone spend their money as they see fir.

Usually someone on the placement committee (or is friends with them) posts a nice PDF with all the preliminary divisions! Guess no one has that connection this year.

It's interesting how many teams are no longer on this list. PAHL could make a few common sense changes to help prevent teams from jumping ship and going independent. The less that happens, the better it is for Pittsburgh youth hockey.

Never going to happen. You are correct that it is better for youth hockey in Pittsburgh, but I don't think it is anything that PAHL can control. You can't stop teams from jumping ship and going independent. Anyone can do it, look at how many have already. Save from a few AAA teams at each level that need to go independent to get competitive games there is really no reason for teams to play independent.

The problem lies in the allure of the people (making money off hockey) selling independent teams to parents and clubs. They hide their fees and profits in the costs associated with being independent to make money, while selling the idea of somehow their team is better than everything in the area so we need to travel (add more profit) to other states to play better teams.

It has started at the low levels, everyone is independent self proclaimed AAA, when in reality all but 1 or 2 teams are just good AA players.  Then by the time teams are at 15u/16u some teams need to go independent because that actually IS the case because any competition that would have been in PAHL is playing on some other independent team on the other side of the city.

It actually could be stopped, but you are right, not by PAHL. Other states/areas limit how many teams can declare AAA in an area. Here it's a joke process.

Yea it's midam that should step in, but they won't. It's more money in their pocket when more teams declare. The faux AAA teams are all going to, then the A+ players who now become AA will at the tier 2 level....

Can't stop it completely but one little thing they could do is make a AA Minor division at the peewee and midget level, in addition to the AA Minor division they already have at the bantam level. Give both of the peewee AA divisions 15 minute periods with 90 minute ice slots, like they do for the two AA bantam divisions. "A" divisions in peewee play the normal 12 minute periods with a 60 minute ice slot, just like they do at the bantam "A" level.

Most teams seem to jump out of PAHL are birth year teams in their minor year. These teams want to play higher skilled teams of kids that are all their birth year. You can't do that in PAHL in your minor year in peewee the way it's currently setup.

Doesn't solve it completely, but it would help more than people thing.
