Lucky17
For those who have/had kids that play for a AA/AAA club team as well as one of the big varsity programs, how do/did you handle situations like this where the varsity team traveled on a weekend and it conflicted with your club schedule? I’m sure if you ask each coach, their team takes priority. It works out when PIHL teams stay to the weekdays and club plays on weekends.

My son has been in this situation a few times, including this year. Fortunately, the club team he plays for has several players who go to the same tournaments, so they do not schedule any games on those weekends. With that said, his Varsity team also has had players who played for Esmark and skip the HS tournaments. From what I've seen, it's mostly the kids who play AAA who skip the HS tournaments, even if their AAA team isn't any better than AA.

I don't mind as much when there are the obscure weekends that you can work around for amateurs, however Meadville having their tournament over MLK weekend is a crock as that is one of the main 2-3 amateur tournament weekends during the entire season. Depending on the tournament, your player may actually be seen by a collage club coach. No one watches AA or lower level AAA. I wouldn't include Meadville in that category, however. Pa Hockey
The Hoosier Cup in South Bend and Governor's Cup of New York in Jamestown are two of the BEST Tournament Fields in the Country including High School +18 U and 16 U at any level. We get plenty of people who talk to these kids about College and Junior Options to move players toward ACHA M1 and NCAA D3 Opportunities for those not going to the NHL. Quality Programs participate and some great hockey is being played, Edited January 21, 2023 by Pa Hockey

Meadville has hosted its tournament that weekend for 27 consecutive years. Teams bring who they can bring and get by without the players who are elsewhere. Pretty simple and not a crock.
