That was the 1st thing I said when this was announced. I feel like there would have to be a shuttle running from somewhere.

Does Edinboro still have an ACHA team or did that program die off? -
Black Bear Starting to move in on Youth Hockey??
Seejay784 replied to hockey1234's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
This is what is making me nervous. We are enjoying playing for the Rebellion and in the PAHL. We only travel 2 or 3 times tops all year. That is perfect for many of the families. I know if they force us into a league with more travel, we won't be back. If the rates go up 1k it would probably stop us too. I'm hoping Rebellion stays the course because it is a wonderful organization. -
I hope the bar stays as is.

PAHL Residency Requirements
Seejay784 replied to Jkersman01's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
That would be tough for someone like our family who is equidistant to Lebo, Shaha, and Preds and those are only 5 minutes closer than RMU. I don't know how they would carve up the boundaries. On top of that, the costs would need to be equal. I wouldn't be too happy if I was in the Preds zone and had to pay way more than someone else playing at Mt Lebanon. -
PIHL 3A, 2A & 1A Rankings & players to watch
Seejay784 replied to Puck01's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Yeah I'm not sure why the D2 division just gets shit on and left out. There are some extremely talented players and teams. Just because a player happens to live in an area that needs to Co-Op to field a team doesn't make the hockey any less valid. The hockey itself is just as good as the A division, the top teams would be middle of the pack in AA. All I am saying is with what little media coverage High School Hockey gets, the D2 players and teams should be included, and they should especially be given the opportunity to play for the Penguins Cup and move onto States. -
My son is an 06 and decided to leave his faux AAA team this year and just do PAHL AA because of the travel. He's at the age of girlfriend, job, high school life. After 10 games so far, his biggest takeaway besides the slower speed of the game is the ice quality in the 3rd. He can't understand why Tier 1 and High School the ice gets cut after the 2nd period but Tier 2 just has to go out and deal with sloppy conditions that 100% affect the way you have to play. Maybe if you want more bubble AAA/AA kids to stay in AA start treating Tier 2 the same as Tier 1. As minor as some think that might be, it tells you right off the bat that Tier 2 is second rate. To get back to your point about who's AAA and who's not. There are really two levels. Tier 1 Elite (top 30) then Tier 1 everyone else. The very top AA Tier 2 teams can probably hang with the very bottom Tier 1 AAA teams. But that is a really small overlap. There is nothing wrong with kids who want to play better competition and travel more opt for the extra A. They might not be playing Shattucks and Pens Elite but they'll get to play other Tier 1 teams that are on the same level such as Indy Jr Fuel, Jr Hurricanes, Etc.

I've been lucky this year. Between high school and amateur games we haven't had any problems with any parents. Only saw one guy get kicked out. He only yelled (real loud), call it both ways when there was a lopsided penalty count. Ref said I'm not having it today and told the guy to leave. He left without incident and even apologized on the way out. If that's all I see, I'll be happy but now since I said that I'm due for a shitshow.

Wanted to update now that we have 5 full games in. I reported earlier that the first game we played was chock full of penalties for mostly clean hits and some that just fell into this "new rule". Well this past weekend it was normal hockey. Kids were taking 2 full strides to finish a check, some big open ice collisions and nothing was called. Only checking infractions we saw were hits up high and boarding. Same as always. The one thing I can say is the players are getting used to no delayed offsides, however, everyone is still icing on the PK for the most part. Teams would rather get the faceoff in their zone and a chance to change clean.

Not just unwatchable but my son said it was horrible to play in. There were so many stoppages and penalties that it made the game not even fun to play. The refs seemed to call a penalty on every check regardless of it was against the new rules or not. At one point my son had the puck. Opposing player lifted the stick shouldered him into the boards just enough to knock him off the puck and made a quick oytlet pass. He got called for a penalty. It was a text book clean defensive play. My son drew the penalty and just shook his and skated to the bench. I'm honestly hoping this was a one off with new and/or confused refs. If not, it's goung to be a loooong season. Oh, and the game lasted over an hour and a half.

'Low level' AAA' grow the game?
Seejay784 replied to Saucey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Here's my two cents on the whole 3rd A saga. My kid is good, not great. High end AA player that loves to play as much as possible. I let him pick where he wants to play every year and what level he wants to try. He was 06 AA independent last 2 years. Played 70+ games 2020 and then 50 games last year because of the pandemic. Some people think that's too much. He said it wasn't enough. He wanted to try AAA this year and here was his reason. AA kids he played with after the 1st line just didn't have any hockey sense and it frustrated him so he said he would rather be 3rd line on a AAA team than top dog on a AA. He made Esmark, then it disbanded the 06 team (I'm glad by the way), he landed on a mixed birthyear AA team in another organization. He said this AA team based on the kids at tryouts would stand up with any the 06 AAA teams outside of PPE and Vengeance. Maybe he's just excited with a new team and it's wishful thinking or maybe they are just as good. He's happy, so I'm happy. Point is, it's not always the parents chasing a 3rd A, sometimes the kids just want to play with and against better players and play as many games as possible. -
Word is they didn't have enough quality kids to field a legit AAA team. I feel bad for the kids that did make it and will now be scrambling to find a team with most tryouts either over or currently ongoing.

PA Hockey Top 5 Western Pa High School Rankings
Seejay784 replied to Pa Hockey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
No love for the "B" division? -
Well PAHL is terrible but that's coming from someone who's kid is not good enough to play AAA, but he's a solid AA player. Walking away from PAHL and joining a 100% independent team was the best decision we ever made. BUT I get it with the AAA teams. If you are calling yourself Tier 1 and play majority of Tier 2 teams you are nothing but a money grabber. Now if you are playing Tier 1 teams and getting beat up, I'm okay with that. That will make a kid better in the long run in my opinion.

Any word on PIHL games?

Any word on PIHL games?
Seejay784 replied to hockeyisgreat's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
At least PA has EMTs unlike Ohio. I would hope that the coach or other team official has the number to text while the parent is outside waiting patiently in their car. Hopefully MTL has Livebarn sooner rather than later. -
Chances of PAHL having a season!?
Seejay784 replied to hockey55's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
We've been to Ohio a few times this year, and we played Detroit teams in the tournaments. The parents we talked to explained to us that they just have to clip the mask on the outside of the cage. It looks weird but the kids didn't really care. -
Chances of PAHL having a season!?
Seejay784 replied to hockey55's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
If PAHL decides to delay the season, or play the 4v4, would the teams be able to just play a bunch of non league scrimmages instead? Since many of the independent teams are in full swing playing regular games in local rinks, it seems logical that PAHL teams can just "scrimmage" 15-20 games. I honestly don't know the rules, maybe there are league sanctions or bylaws. -

I'm wondering what PIHL will do now that the stay was denied. I know schools are going to be a little more by the governors book, but schools are having 5v5 scrimmages now. I guess it's up to the league? -
Unbelievable.
