Yesterday at Frozen Pond. Check out livebarn right about the 3:30pm segment. Bench clearing brawl involving 2 local teams.

You watch the video close enough, there is a player that's not even dressed, helmet on but wearing shorts out in the middle of all of this!!!

CJ sending his Stella Sh*ts off the bench to join in. WTF

For reasons unknown to me, they continue to let this guy lead our youth.

What a disgrace!

Wow, this seems a bit personal to you. Did your kid not make the cut for his spring team?

And no I don't condone coaches sending players out on the ice to seek retribution, if that's what happened.

Nope, not personal at all.  I just know the guy!  My kids were too busy out having fun with their friends to be a part of that shitshow😝

Just calling a spade, a spade!  Thank you for your useless input though, Zam

My kids are older now.  Some years we did Spring hockey.  Some years we didn't.  Some years one kid did it and not the other.  Some years both did it.  People clearly have an axe to grind.  I think it all comes down to the fact that some parents don't want to or can't spend the money on Spring hockey.  To say your kids were out having fun with their friends probably means that you didn't want your kids playing Spring hockey for whatever reason.  Because I can assure you that if I asked my kids if they wanted to play Spring hockey they would respond that they would like to play.

The debate about Spring and Summer hockey doesn't end when the kids get older.  The events just become more frequent and more expensive ... Mid Ams, Nahl combines, USHL combines, main camps, etc.  You have to pick and choose.  Can't do it all but you have do some things.  Oh yeah, there are the lessons.  And if you kid is going to be any good he/she better be doing lessons all summer.  Guessing it will be at least a couple of times a week.  Oh yeah.  You gotta hit the gym too.  None of this means that my kids are going to play NCAA hockey.  It just means that they are doing what they can to give themselves a chance.

The kid wearing the shorts and helmet did nothing other than walk onto the ice at the end.  He was not involved in this in any way.

Still a bad situation, for what I'm assuming to be an injured player with no real equipment on to be in, right?

The event was non-USA hockey sanctioned, so no penalties would carry over to anything. Nowhere to file a report because there is no governing body for this tournament.

I get that, I also get they probably weren't in the mood after breaking up fights. But as an official, if a score sheet is being kept, which it obviously was, I would feel obligated to accurately document the game.

At first glance hard to believe this happens in a spring game, BUT looking at those rosters posted above it is clear that the 2010 esmark and venegance kids smoked the PPE 10 kids on the other team 3-0.  How embarrassing for them following the 2010 PPEs losing way at Nationals.  So goon it up w late illegal hits and then the fighting after.

2010 esmark and venegance kids #WINNING!

Obviously a troll.

"Smoked"? 3-0... lol okay.

There was 3 PPE kids. The hits looked okay to me, but called penalties so agree to disagree.

What I find more interesting is you came to an anonymous forum to gloat and antagonize the short comings of 13 year old kids.

You're a real hero, we should get together so you can tell me about all the victories and accolades that you've accomplished. Let me know when so I can block my day out, I'm sure it's extensive.

#FCKINLOSER!!!

Injured players wearing a helmet that were on the bench during the game are allowed on the ice for the end of game handshake line.  Dude didn't throw punches or get involved in the on-ice mess.

Pens are the only option for good AAA coaching in Pittsburgh. Esmark has become ghetto and trashy since CJ started coaching.  Vengeance once again lost half of their roster to Esmark and Predators due to a narcissistic dad coach. Predators lost all their top players because of coaching / assistant coaching decisions. The lack of coaching leadership of both teams caused the fight.

10’s parents should take note from of the 09’s and ask the question why Esmark and Vengeance can’t field 09 teams anymore.

This guy has an axe to grind but in my opinion what CJ did with the original 2010 and 2011 teams was flat out amazing. Teams that he started with were mostly kids cut from Vengenance/Pens Black, AA/A major kids, and a bunch of kids playing up. He inherited a faux AAA roster twice and helped turn those teams into top 40-50 programs within a few years.

The only place to get good coaching? That is a slap in the face to a lot of really good coaches out there. Once again, Pens Elite is NOT the greatest show on earth. Kids advance without them all the time. I wish your kid the best of luck, but just because he plays for the Pens doesn’t mean he is “making it”. And there are also kids his age that don’t play for the pens that will.

Who do you think is the best 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008 AAA coaches in Pittsburgh?

How many former PPE coaches have been banned from Coaching due to safesport violations during their time there?

Knowing your X's and O's does NOT qualify you as good.

Having played in the NHL does not qualify you as good.

These are children, adolescents and young adults. Coaches need to know how to communicate to specific age players.

One could argue that a learn to play coach who has crossed the paths of 1000's of players and taught them to love the game is a better Coach than a high level Coach who is successful but makes some players lose interest or quit the sport altogether.

So are these kids here to learn hockey or just to say they beat 3 kids on PPE in a spring tournament? Sounds really crazy to me!

I see this as kids #LOOSING!  Embarrassing for all ADULTS involved.

Who, specifically, is a good AAA coach at Pens? I know they’ve had some in the past, but those guys are long gone now.

100%. Just because someone was a great athlete or super student of the game doesn’t mean they can communicate to kid

I don’t know all of them. But I do know a couple of guys in the age groups you have mentioned that I believe to be good coaches that are not at the Pens. Both have pretty good pedigree, but more importantly they both have made better players out of kids under their tutelage.

Name them. Most are just walking around trying to relive their youth as they never amounted to much. I can even think of one just running Daddy’s business and still thinks he’s going somewhere & is full of empty promises.

Can you or anyone name the current AAA coaches in Pittsburgh that are better than the Pens?

The bottom line is that unfortunately the Pens are the best option for AAA coaching in Pittsburgh. It’s a shame players and families must choose to play for Pens or play for coaches like CJ or daddy coaches. Attitude reflects leadership. The lack of qualified and dignified coaching in Pittsburgh has caused the delusional hockey parent and the AAA musical chairs game.

I know that there are good coaching options at high school and lower-level teams, I am talking about AAA. I did not intend to slap those coaches in the face.

Don't know the Pens Coaches but I would have to say that Yuri & Kosick at Esmark have to be doing something right as their 16 & 18U teams are consistently competitive and beat the Pens sometimes.  The coach of the 06 independent SHAHA AAA team might have been the best of the bunch.  Not sure of his name but b put together really good teams up to last year.

I think the 18U Esmark team has 8 or 9 kids tendered to Junior teams!

Thank you. I have heard good things about SHAHA 06 coach and Yuri.

I am referring to the 08 and younger age groups.

I think it all comes down to the fact that some parents don't want to or can't spend the money on Spring hockey.

I find myself fitting into both categories.  I'm amazed that pre-teens are flying off to Europe on a thrown together spring tournament team and certainly can't afford that.  Also, I see some of these tournaments labeled "elite" where they are publicly looking for bodies just to fill spots a few days before the tournament starts.

If my kids want to play and would have fun doing it, I'd try and find a way to make it happen for sure.  I just get tired of the ones that act like your kid will be at a developmental loss if he/she isn't playing in some weekend spring tournament.
