They conveniently left off the protesting/rioting activity...

I do not see protesting, rioting or casinos.

I signed it, too, but do we really want 100 comments here saying that people signed it? This board is already overwhelmed with random comments. I, for one, don't want to wade through those.

Just sign it and don't brag about it here.

When people see that other people signed it they are more likely to get involved. It's not bragging. They should be proud of themselves for doing something and letting others know.

so what is this saying, 22 people out of the 1.2 million in Allegheny county that tested positive played a sport in that week?

or is it 22 people out of the 3.5 million in Western PA?

are these youth sports? or anyone that got tested? if i play ping pong with my neighbor, then test positive, did I play a sport?

what if a grocery worker, got up Saturday, played a sport, went to a party then a bar, then on Sunday went to church, would they be on there 5 times?

you clearly think this chart means something, so do explain? because what i see is a bunch of numbers that say there is no reason for a lockdown.

Yes. What I think it means is that this is what our local health officials are monitoring. So if there is an outbreak/spike in cases, the items with the highest numbers on this chart is what they will look to impose restrictions on.

I wrote my State Senator, Democrat Lindsey Williams regarding Bill #2787 and received this response from her office today.  She expressed reluctance in supporting this bill at first but I assume her office was inundated with emails in hoping she would reconsider and support the bill and clearly, she did and voted YES.  Power to the people.

Her response is below:

In the past few weeks, many parents have emailed me about their children playing sports. Parents expressed concern about their kids missing an opportunity to play. As a former high school athlete myself, I understand. I know that sports are a valuable part of students' lives-- for their physical, mental, and social development. I also know that parents are worried about the health risks of exposing their families to COVID-19.

Today, I voted in favor of HB 2787 in the Education Committee meeting in order to advance it to the full Senate for consideration. HB 2787 allows individual school districts to make decisions on school sports and other extracurricular activities. This was not an easy decision for me. Pennsylvania still lacks proper testing, contract tracing, and PPE. However, if the state is allowing individual districts to make their own decisions on reopening, it seems inconsistent to not allow them to make their own decisions on sports. I have been disappointed that the state’s guidance on sports has failed to fully address the differences in risks between different sports and the different types/sizes of indoor venues. I anticipate that the full Senate will vote on this bill next week.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Sincerely,

Lindsey M. Williams

Ice Rink vs. Venue

What is the difference?

I just can't help but read that bill and note that it refers again and again to seating - seating capacity, may resume interior seating, etc. What does that have to do with ice hockey?

Until this is addressed by something that amends or at least refers to the sports section of the diktat, I am just not going to be happy.

great, thanks!! it makes perfect sense that the health officials would have a chart like this so they could provide appropriate directives for public safety, it is the kind of logical action that one should expect. So since we are not currently experiencing any outbreak/spike in cases, why are activities with such low numbers being restricted in absolutely nonsensical ways? How does this chart explain the Governor's directive that a 17,000 sq ft building should have the same capacity as a 200 sq ft building? or even more brilliant, if you shrink the size of the ice surface by creating an imaginary barrier 6 feet wide, you can now put 50 people in the same space?

How come Ohio has indoor restrictions based on the size of the space? How come they have been open since the end of May and we just got 90 more days "in the hole"?

The argument isn't about the "realness" of the virus, it's about the arbitrariness of the restrictions in our state and the seeming lack of desire to even consider making restrictions that have some type of basis in logic. it goes so far beyond what form, if any, youth hockey takes this year. the fact that we need to petition grown adults who think of themselves as leaders to tell them square footage should be taken into account is a down right embarrassment.

I don't know the answer to any of your questions, but I am just pointing out that no petition will matter if they don't like what they see on this chart.

That’s great and all, now write her about HB 2832. That’s the bill that helps hockey, I’m sure you will get a hard NO.

And why is that?  Because she’s a Democrat?

I've read lots of political bullshit on this and other threads and it’s getting old. I think everyone here wants the same thing, and the political commentary doesn’t help.  I provided an example of someone that was initially against this bill and with the help of her constituents sending emails she changed her mind and voted yes.   Now we can move on to 2832

Whom have you written to on any of the bills? What response did you or others get?   Where’s yours or others update on what their lawmakers have done?

The cynicism here is a joke.

Yes because she’s a Democrat. They are voting party on everything else lately. I watched the streams all week during the house votes, they are getting more heated as it goes with each other.

let’s face it - the democrats side with wolf. That’s just the way politics are. 2838 goes completely against wolf, raises limits indoor based on capacity, not just 25 regardless of a buildings size.

“Let’s face it - the Democrats side with Wolfe.”  I just gave you an example of a Democrat that not only was on Wolfe’s side at the beginning but didn’t side with Wolfe when it mattered and voted against his position.

What legislators have you reached out to?  Whose opinion have you helped change and what have you done specifically to move the needle other that spew partisan bullshit on a hockey thread?

if you put as much energy as you do in talking about your PPE kid’s illustrious career and reciting his resume on a daily basis but instead, did something to change things you might bring some value to this topic.

Please dig back and tell me when I recited my sons great career. I have only done so when ask about it.
do you understand what this next bill is ? Did you read it ? It’s going straight party line. Wolf will be able to veto it. They don’t want indoor limits raised. Did you watch the floor sessions Tuesday and wed ? I did.

scroll back in this thread, I am the one that was calling friends not involved in hockey, in a district (mt lebo) I don’t live in to help get rep miller to flip on 2787, he was a NO. did the four Lebo residents that contacted him for me help ? I don’t know but I’ve done my part and I still am. I would like to see my niece play her first full ice game this season! I’ve contacted my local rep, I’ve contacted non hockey families in other districts to help pressure those reps.

come back to this post when the votes are released for 2832, when it’s not veto proof because the democrats voted straight party line.

you do sound about as brilliant as Gary, you horse tooth jackass.

Spewing partisan BS is commonplace now when it comes to any on-line discussion. So many on here are so partisan that they can't imagine you would want the same outcome as them unless you bash Wolf and hate all democrats. We also have a lot of self-proclaimed medical doctors on here that insist they know for sure what activities are safe during a pandemic. None of us know that. This is all a big experiment. I am hopeful that hockey can be played without causing any problems. I think it's worth trying, but who really knows how it will work out? I think those that would like to see restrictions lifted should state their case. Petitions or whatever can't hurt. Maybe it will happen. This all is just not as simple as the assumption that our government is trying to destroy our lives.

it's not partisan BS when it's in black in white in front of your face. it is a FACT, 14 dems need flipped to pass this bill. the list is there for ALL to see. it is a FACT, directly from the office of the governor, if you divide the ice into 2 smaller areas separated by an imaginary 6 foot divider, you can put more people on the ice. yes, more people in a smaller area is fine, so long as a hockey game doesn't occur. it is a FACT that there are senators trying to make this a bi-partisan issue, who admitted at the Delmont rally that the Dems are under heavy pressure from above to vote no on lifting restrictions.

bury your head in the sand all you want, but what is going on in this country right now is nothing but partisan politics. We're trying to get our Dems to use some common sense in the restrictions they have put in place, while in Ohio, the republicans are trying to impeach Dewine for having any restrictions in place. it's stupidity from every direction, but as an American citizen, it's your right to call out this stupidity and force your elected officials to make changes or get new officials. just sitting there, saying, "ah gee shucks, this doesn't seem very smart, but, i dunno, i'll just do whatever i'm told" is exactly why our elected officials, on both sides, have such a sense of entitlement and arrogance. the sheeple will never question MY wise authority!!!!

If it was MidAm and USA Hockey then Ohio wouldn’t be able to be having games like they are.

Mid Am and USA Hockey have said your game has to be compliant with your local regs. That is why people are calling and petitioning their legislatures. Ohio is operating under different rules. It's still not entirely normal there either.
